Direct to Retail Book Sales for Antique & Collectible Books - Liquidate With Trust
ProfessBooks is proud to present our new service, direct-to-retail book sales for individuals looking to liquidate their books at fair market values, rather than having them go to auction where books are often sold for pennies on the dollar.
How do we know? Well, we, are usually the buyers and we recognize that there is an opportunity here to help people retain more of their estate's value.
The only downside to this is that you may have to wait a few weeks or even months for certain items to sell - this is because some antiques simply aren't liquid.
Truth is, this is the case for a lot of books. But we still think that this is a huge opportunity, because the auction prices still don't reflect anything near what we think the owners should be getting. Just because books can take significant periods of time to sell doesn't mean that they should go for 50 cents on the dollar or less in many cases.
We have experience selling books of all kinds from all eras and will provide you with a free, detailed appraisal upon request. If you like the number, here is the process:
1. You send us photos of the book.
2. We will properly and promptly (within 3 days) describe, market, and list the book to our trusted seller accounts on the following marketplaces: Ebay, AbeBooks, Etsy, TikTok shop, and Biblio. (We believe that by utilizing our platforms, your book will be much more likely to sell and we will be able to charge a higher price).
3. When the item sells, we will send you a prepaid label and you will be responsible for packing the item and shipping it (see our packaging guidelines and get a free package pickup).
Fees:
We charge a flat 10% fee on the sale price of the item, after all fees and shipping.
For example:
$100 dollar book sells. It sold on ebay which incurs a 15% fee to ebay and costs
6 dollars to ship. After fees and shipping we are left with (100*.85) - 6 = 79. We take 10% of that 79 which is 7.9, and you are left with 71.1 dollars.
Here's why that is good for you:
In our experience, at auction, the average book sells for 20% to 30% of their retail value (most of our books are priced in the 50-150 dollar range, with more expensive books this does increase to perhaps 50 to 80%). The thing is, even if something sells for 80% of its retail value, which will almost never happen, the auction house will take at least a 15% fee if not a 20 or 30% fee. So in the best possible case, you will retain 65% of the retail value, while with us you retain a guaranteed 71.1 percent if the item sells.
And here's the other thing:
The truth is, the antiques market has one of the shadiest reputations in the world. This is because the information barrier in antiques is such that the average person cannot reliably find out, by themselves, what something is worth. Even with all the tools on the internet, there is such a saavy with antiques that is fun but also has the possibility to take advantage of unaware people.
We want to be as transparent as possible. We guarantee to you that we will never take advantage of you by doing some of the following practices that we have been unlucky enough to witness in our time in this business:
-Purchasing our own items by listing at a lower cost
-Faking the details of any items
-Lying about fees
How can we guarantee these things?
Well, we do so by giving you all of the information that you need to understand why your item is worth what it is worth.
We use proprietary formulas to appraise, but we will share with you the following things:
1. Previous sales records with photos
2. Detailed analysis of the three major categories:
a. Condition
b. Rarity
c. Collectibility
With all of that being said, we are excited to get this started. We have created another page where you can submit photos and details of your items. We will respond with an appraisal, the details, and the expected sales time. Upon your approval, we ask that you fill out this pdf and submit it here.
